In celebration of its 120th anniversary, the Tamdhu distillery has released a single cask “team edition” whisky which has been selected by a team of 15 members of the distillery’s staff.
The spirit destined to become this whisky was distilled on 12 December 2002. It was then filled into a European oak first-fill sherry butt and then it sat maturing in Tamdhu’s traditional dunnage Warehouse Number Five. Once it was matured to Tamdhu’s satisfaction it was then bottled, un-chill filtered, at cask strength (59.3% abv).
Tambdu will release 603 bottles of the “team edition”.
The team chose this particular cask through blind tasting whisky of different ages from a range of cask types, including European and American sherry oak. The European oak first-fill sherry butt proved to be the favourite among nine samples tasted by the team, which included a blind nosing and tasting of the top three.
Tamdhu “120 Anniversary Single Cask Distillery Team Edition” is a distillery exclusive which retails for £250.
Very timely indeed, as I’ll be in Speyside next month. Tamdhu, here I come!
