Connemara Peated Single Malt Irish Whiskey

Type: Single malt whiskey

Origin: Ireland

ABV: 40%

Malt Mileage rating: stars 2

Reaction:

Nose: Apple, candied lemon peel, honey and soft peat. I keep getting medicated cough lozenges, with menthol and sugary sweetness.

Taste: Bah! How disappointing. Thin, watery, raw and just plain uninteresting. The whiskey is sweet, with apple and melon candy. As the nose suggests, I also get sweet sugary lemon drops and hints of honey. The taste of peat starts out quite vegetal, and then plumes of smoke form.

Finish: Smoky, with warming peppery spices.

  1. Oh dear!
Perhaps the added caramel has influenced the experience?
The 22yo is caramel free & far more rounded.
Personally I prefer the Turf Mor Connemara bottling.
It does what it say on the bottle – more!
