The whiskies that make up Tullamore Dew 12 year old Special Reserve, which include pot still and malt whiskey, are triple distilled and then aged in ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks for 12 to 15 years.
The flavour profile of this whiskey is sweet and sugary with honey and creamy vanilla, and a sumptuous foundation of sherry character, raisins, chocolate, spiced fruit cake and fruit mice pie is interlaced with grain and lemon peel – basically it tastes like liquid Christmas fruit pie with generous dashes of cinnamon and nutmeg.
At its price, this whiskey is a great buy and well worth considering as a daily dram that offers solid grain-led flavours and some delicious sherry character.
