Soft sugars radiate with notes of oak, but it becomes abundantly clear that there is a vibrancy and energy seriously lacking in this whisky.

Glenfiddich have produced some praiseworthy expressions lately, and the Glenfiddich 21 Year Old and 30 Year Old deserve a special mention. IOn my blind tasting of it, the Glenfiddich 14 Year Old Rich Oak appeared to go against that trend, and offered a boring, almost yawn inspiring, performance. My reaction to this whisky was one of disappointment, but it is still good and dependable.
Nose: Dull oak driven surges of rusty barrels strike with mild vanilla and delicate hints of raisins preserved in alcohol. Uninteresting and uninviting, this whisky has a lethargic nose tainted with some new spirit.
Taste: Like the nose, this seems uninteresting. There is an oak driven sweetness than dominates, as its sugars beam and outshine everything else. I have not tasted a whisky this skewed for a quite some time.
Finish: What finish? The character on the palate recedes as soon as it comes.
